Frequently Asked Questions
How can I extend the life of the product?
All materials used by Likon are designed for outdoor use and offer high weather resistance, but improper handling can accelerate wear and tear. Here are some tips to help extend the life of your wetsuit:
- Wetsuits are vulnerable to damage when putting them on and taking them off. Avoid pulling or pinching the material with your fingers and handle it as gently as possible. Put on or take off your wetsuit in the water to reduce stress on the material.
- After use, gently rinse the wetsuit with fresh water and leave it to dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded place. Chlorine, salt, direct sunlight, and high temperatures can degrade the material.
- When storing your wetsuit, avoid hanging it on thin hangers. Prolonged stretching accelerates deterioration, as shown in the video, and can cause cracks around the shoulder panels. Instead, use thick hangers or, if the shoulders are made of thinner material, gently hang/fold the wetsuit at the waist for storage. When folding it, place padding materials in the folded area to prevent irreparable creases or dents.
Why does rubber turn white?
The white powder is proof of authenticity. Sometimes, a white powder may be visible on the surface of YAMAMOTO materials. This is called “bloom,” a natural phenomenon in which protective ingredients in the rubber, such as antioxidants, slowly rise to the surface and crystallize over time.
These ingredients are essential for protecting rubber from UV rays and oxidation.
Although it may appear to be deterioration at first glance, bloom actually helps prevent deterioration and plays an important role in extending the life of the material. Bloom is a symbol of weather resistance and one of the reasons why YAMAMOTO materials can last up to 60 times longer than other materials.
Since the bloom protects the material, it is not necessary to remove it. If you prefer to clean it, use one of the following methods:
– Immerse in water (the bloom will come off naturally)
– Gently rub with a soft cloth
– Dry at a low temperature with a hair dryer.
– Avoid using high-temperature tools such as irons.
– Flowering reappears after a while.
